Rob Palmer

Rob has been involved with animals since he was very
young. He has always had a passion for birds of
prey, and has pursued that passion throughout his
adult life. In college, he spent numerous hours
studying the nesting territories of prairie falcons
in north eastern Colorado, and additional time
researching screech owls nesting along the Boulder
Creek trail in the center of Boulder, Colorado. Rob
taught life science and biology for seven years in
the late eighties and early nineties. Since that
time, he has spent most of his free time studying
raptors and refining his photography techniques.
Photography has always been a part of Rob's life. He
began taking pictures with a Polaroid black and
white camera when he was twelve, then quickly moved
on to a 35 mm SLR. His first SLR was a Kowa. In high
school he became the school's photographer and was
able to use the school's Pentax cameras. The basics
in photography have stuck with him. Rob spent the
last half of 2007 and early 2008 traveling the globe
to photograph the book "Sky Hunters, The Passion of
Falconry", which was published in the fall of 2008.
Edited and written by Hossein Amirsadeghi, this book
will set the standard for Falconry for years to
come.
Rob has been published in the following magazines
and journals: Audubon Magazine, National Wildlife,
Wild Bird, Birder's World, BBC Wildlife, Living
Bird, American Falconry, Defenders of Wildlife and
the North American Falconers Journal. Some of his
photos have been used for advertisements in Business
Week, Fortune, The Wall Street Journal and Sotheby's

Capture the Wild Canvas that is Africa
, A Tanzania Photo Safari and Workshop
Tanzania, Africa
1st March, 12 March 2012
Come
and join Nature's Photo Adventures on this photographic
safari to the African country of Tanzania. Lying just south
of the equator, Tanzania is East Africa's largest country,
and an immensely rewarding place to visit. We will spend our
time together in and around Tanzania in three of the best
spots to photograph wildlife in Africa. These are, the
Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Mt Kilimanjaro.
“In our
opinion this photo adventure to Tanzania is unsurpassed for
value, photographic opportunities and great accommodation along
with lots of guidance and expert photographic instruction.”
– David Hemmings, Nature’s Photo Adventures
Together, we will see and photograph an astounding collection of
wildlife and inspiring landscapes ranging from forest-covered
volcanic peaks to dusty savanna populated by elephants,
antelopes, lions, leopards and cheetahs. Tanzania is one of the
four most naturally diverse nations on earth. It contains
Africa's second-largest number of bird species (around 1500),
the continent's biggest mammal population including the big five
as well as over 7500 plant species.

Gorge, onto the Serengeti plains. We enjoy a view of the
archaeological sites (and visit the museum) where early human
tools and fossils have been found. Afternoon game drive in the
Rolling grasslands. Criss-crossed with forested riverine
valleys, the southern plains play home to millions of Africa’s
large mammals, making this one of the world’s most famous
wildlife destinations. The large mammals of this area are
trailed along with no less than four species of vultures
(African White-backed, Lappet-faced, White-headed and Hooded)

DAY
5: NDUTU
All
day game drive in Ndutu. Best time for the wildebeest migration
is Dec to June but there are spectacular wildlife sights at
anytime of year. The wildebeest migrate in a clockwise direction
from the Serengeti in the South to the Masai Mara in the north
and then back again and onto the Gol Plains and Ndutu. The cycle
is repeated every year and the exact timing is dictated by the
rain. When the water and grazing disappear in one area due to a
seasonal drought the wildebeest need move along to where the
seasonal rains are falling to survive by finding new grazing and
water. The wildebeest have to cross a number of rivers in their
perilous but amazing 300 mile journey like the Grumeti and the
Mara in the north and this is where a lot of them don't make it
falling prey to crocodiles and drowning. Only the very fittest
survive. They are also preyed on by lion, leopard, cheetah and
hyena as they have no choice but to move through the territories
occupied by these predators in their quest for fresh grass. The
predators have a food bonanza when the migration passes through
their territory. We will be able to explore as they give birth
and congregate near the Lake Ndutu and Lake Masek areas. LUXURY
MOBILE CAMP Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
DAY
6: NDUTU
It's
important to remember that there are no guarantees when it comes
to the timing of the migration. It's all dependant on the rain
and the seasons start at different times every year which means
the herds might not be where historically they should be.
However, in February, the wildebeest begin foaling and they do
this at roughly the same time each year with all the predators
in close attendance. Many people only want to see the migration
and don't realise that this is a comparable wildlife spectacle.
One of the best times to see the predators is now. LUXURY MOBILE
CAMP Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
DAY
7: NDUTU
We
continue to explore the plains—mammals and bird life alike. With
this area in the heart of the Serengeti Plain, at the head of
Olduvai Gorge, the landscape is beautiful; acacia woodland with
the mighty backdrop of the Ngorongoro Crater highlands. LUXURY
MOBILE CAMP Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
DAY
8: NGORONGORO
Today we leave Ndutu and explore the Gol Mountains and Nasera
Rock before heading onto Ngorongoro for overnight. With their
pink granite cliffs, the remote and ecologically fragile Gol
Mountains are divided by the grassy pass of Angata Kiti. This
area lies in the rain shadow on the Ngorongoro highlands and it
was believed to be barren and dusty, yet it is exceptionally
fertile and only a small amount of moisture produces mineral
rich grass that attracts large herds of animals during the
shifting period to occupy it. Nasera Rock, a granite monolith
rising 80 meters above the plains, lies in the shadow of the Gol
Mountains and shelters wildebeest that romp across the green
grass during the wet season, plus baboons that climb up the
steep grass during the wet season, plus baboons that climb up
the steep sides of the rock. The Salei plains lead to Olkarien
Gorge, a spectacular, narrow rocky cut at the eastern edge of
the Gol Mountains, and the nesting site of the Ruppel’s griffon
vulture. NGORONGORO SOPA LODGE Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
DAY
9: NGORONGORO
Early descent for photography purposes. Ngorongoro is collapsed
volcano - an incredible natural amphitheatre, 25 km across and
teeming with all of the African big game. An early morning
descent into the crater for spectacular scenery and game viewing
in what has been described as the eighth wonder of the world.
The forest gallery may produce: both Hartlaub’s and Shallow’s
Turacos and the highland grassland with the Jackson’s Widowbird,
Grassland pipit, Common Stonechat, Capped Wheatear, Montane
White-eye. In mid- afternoon, transfer into the crater highlands
for overnight TLOMA LODGE Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
DAY
10: ESILALEI
Transfer onto Esilalei, a small village in the wildlife corridor
between Tarangire & Manyara national parks for Maasai lands and
life experience. Your visit supports the building of their
school here. Wildlife roams the village as you get closer to the
lakeshore for our last evening together. KARAMA LODGE Breakfast,
